Telehealth and Telemedicine

5/6/2020

Telehealth or Telemedicine, you’ve heard the terms, more so now, than probably ever before.
But what are they? Are they the same thing?

Both terms have been around for quite a while, but with the current state of the world, most
people are hearing these terms for the first time.

Wikipedia describes them as “the distribution of health-related services and information via
electronic information and telecommunication technologies, allowing long-distance patients and
clinician contact care, advice, education, intervention, monitoring, and remote admissions.”
Although the terms are often used interchangeably, telemedicine is clinical services used to
diagnose and monitor care, whereas telehealth includes preventive, promotive, and curative
care. Both services are provided by board-certified, HIPAA compliant physicians and specialists
licensed in the state the patient is seeking services in. And both services are confidential and
provided without the patient having to leave the safety and privacy of their home.

As with any form of technology there are limitations, nothing can ever completely replace a
“hands-on” physical examination, but with new advances every day, it is slowly integrating into
the mainstream & the new norm.

Why sit in a doctors office when you already feel horrible and risk catching something else or
infecting someone else, when you can use your phone or computer from your bed to dial up a
doctor to diagnose your ailment!
