Second Opinion Leaves Rangers Ogando with 3 Strikes

9/12/2013

Starting pitcher for the Texas Rangers, Alexi Ogando, is on the disabled list for the third time this year, according to ESPN. Ogando has been suffering with nerve inflammation in his right shoulder since the middle of August.

Ogando requested a second opinion from sports orthopedist Dr. James Andrews, who confirmed the Rangers’ worst fears. Ogando received an injection and some oral pain medication.

The Rangers are hoping their star pitcher will head back to the mound soon; however, given his string of injuries in 2013 that might just be wishful thinking. Earlier this year, Ogando was benched with shoulder inflammation and right biceps tendinitis. The team says he will return to the rotation when and if he’s healthy.

Reasons for Outsourcing Imaging Diagnostics

9/12/2013

Teleradiology is gaining international attention. It’s a word the public is just starting to recognize but one with which most health care providers are familiar. Outsourcing imaging diagnostics has been a sensitive topic for administrators who worry about accuracy and the qualifications of the doctors providing the service.

For these reasons and others health care providers have been reluctant to consider outsourcing this service that is so critical to proper diagnosis and treatment. A group of health care providers recently got together and came up with several good reasons to choose outsourcing.

First of all, teleradiology is convenient for patients who no longer have to wait hours for a doctor to make a diagnosis. With companies like USARAD.com, XMRI.com and SecondOpinions.com, specialists and subspecialists read your scans and within as quickly as an hour you receive a report from a U.S. trained board certified physician. And because these doctors are specialists and subspecialists you can be sure to have a more accurate and efficient diagnosis.

Outsourcing imaging diagnostics provides a built-in second opinion an additional set of eyes to review the image helps improve quality control. Quality assurance techniques are a critical part of the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare. Having a minimum of two trained professionals studying that image gives patients peace of mind.

This process also helps to avoid medical errors that could lead to HIPAA violations. The information is stored in private secure platforms compliant with HIPAA regulations. Reducing costs is a reality for hospitals and other medical facilities. Teleradiology saves money. Health care providers don’t have to hire staff to manage the imaging.  And even more important than saving money, patients receive better health care by having access to specialists and subspecialists.

Now not all teleradiology providers are equal. At USARAD.com, XMRI.com and SecondOpinions.com, You simply upload your MRI, CT, X-ray, Mammogram, Ultra-sound or Nuclear Medicine study and our specialists and subspecialists interpret your scans and provide you with their expert opinion. Packers Running Back Gets Second Opinion/Now on IR

9/5/2013

It looks like Green Bay Packers DuJuan Harris will be missing the team’s Sept. 8 regular-season opener at San Francisco. The running back has been suffering from knee injuries that kept him on the sidelines during offseason workouts.

After carrying three times for 2 yards against the Seahawks last week, Harris hobbled off the field. A second opinion has revealed the patellar tendon is the source of pain. Now Harris is on the injured reserve list and he admits he will likely need surgery to repair the damage.

Harris started the final four games, including playoffs, for the Packers last season. Hopefully with the proper diagnosis and treatment, he will be able to suit up again real soon.

Patients Want to Know More about Medical Mistakes

9/3/2013

Think about it, if you were the victim of a medical mistake, wouldn’t you want to know how it happened? Sure you would.

That’s the idea behind new research from Washington University School of Medicine. The university’s team conducted a number of focus group studies with doctors and patients separately and doctors and patients together.

What they found was patients wanted to know if a mistake happened during their treatment, why it happened and how it could be prevented in the future. Oh and they also wanted an apology. Not surprising.

Doctors on the other hand were less inclined to admit an error because of the barriers that prevent them from doing so. For instance, most medical institutions prevent admission of mistakes for legal reasons fearing a lawsuit will be filed against the facility.

Researchers suggest a blame-free culture would help ease patient’s mind and restore trust in the doctor-patient relationship. And that could ultimately lead to less medical malpractice lawsuits.

At SecondOpinions.com we want to decrease the number of medical errors and experts say getting a second opinion accomplishes that. We provide second opinions in all areas of medicine because we feel that getting a proper radiologic diagnosis is critical to your care.

Dr. Oz Says Always Get a Second Opinion

8/29/2013

Did you know Dr. Mehmet Oz, cardiac surgeon at Columbia University/New York-Presbyterian Hospital and host of The Dr. Oz Show is a big believer in second opinions. He says research indicates getting a second opinion results in a new diagnosis in 30% of cases.

If you’re worried your doctor won’t approve of you getting a second opinion because it seems like you don’t trust him, Dr. Oz says that’s simply not the case. He believes it’s “second nature” for good physicians to want a patient to get a second opinion. “You’re giving the doctor a chance to have his/her work checked by another qualified physician.”

The consulting doctor might completely agree with your doctor’s diagnosis, could agree on some points but not others, or could have a completely different diagnosis. In any case, Dr. Oz says your doctor should thank for you checking up on him/her.

At SecondOpinions.com, we make it easy for anyone in the world to obtain a second opinion from U.S. trained, board certified specialists and sub subspecialists.  Patients simply upload MRI, CT, X-Ray, Mammogram, Ultrasound or Nuclear Medicine scans and experts study your images and provide you with their advanced second opinion.

Famous Pilot on New Mission Against Medical Errors

8/26/2013

Remember Captain Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger, the pilot who safely landed a jet on the Hudson River back in 2009? Well now he’s on a new mission to reduce medical errors in the United States.

Sullenberger has become a sort of medical expert since the Miracle on the Hudson and wants the healthcare industry to adopt pilot-like safety checklists for the healthcare industry. It’s estimated up to 200,000 people a year die from medical errors.

The so-called Miracle Pilot says patients die needlessly every day and there’s hardly anything heard about it. If thousands died in a place crash according to Sullenberger, planes would be grounded, airports closed and investigations launched.

In a recent “Politico” report, Sullenberger said the aviation industry and relevant government agencies have been successful in minimizing death by human error. He suggested death by medical error is strikingly common. It’s not always a bad apple but a faulty system that’s to blame.

Studies have shown that second opinions decrease medical errors, save lives, and keep healthcare costs down by preventing unnecessary surgeries and procedures. At SecondOpinions.com, patients all over the world are connected to top American radiology experts and sub-specialists who provide second opinions on medical scans such as MRI and CT scans.

Second Opinion Brings Good News for Chargers Malcom Floyd

8/20/2013

A second opinion for San Diego Chargers Wide Receiver Malcom Floyd revealed that his knee is sprained. Floyd and his coaches worried he may have torn his ACL a much more complicated injury that could have benched him for the season.

Because there is no structural damage returning to the field depends on how Floyd feels. The Chargers plan to be without their #1 receiver for the rest of the preseason. They are making sure he doesn’t overdo it so he’ll be healthy and ready to perform when the season begins.

Knee sprains are the most common type of sprain. Typically, if you have a lot of pain and swelling it means your sprain is more severe.  However, in most cases sprains can be treated at home if you follow the R.I.C.E. method – Rest, Ice, Compress (with a bandage) and Elevate.

You don’t have to be a professional athlete to have knee and other joint pain. If you want to make sure you have the proper diagnosis, SecondOpinions.com can help.

Michigan Doctor Misdiagnosed Patients to Collect Medicare Payments

8/19/2013

Did you hear about the Michigan doctor who was reportedly giving cancer treatments to patients who didn’t need them? Dr. Farid Fata has been charged in a $35-million Medicare Scheme and accused or ordering unnecessary hematology and oncology treatments for healthy people.

Dr. Fata allegedly ordered chemotherapy treatments for people whose cancer was in remission or for end of life patients who would not have been helped by such treatments. He did it to rake in payments from Medicare.

If those patients had obtained a second opinion, like experts suggest all patients do after receiving a diagnosis, many if not all would have learned they did not need the treatments Dr. Fata prescribed. A second opinion in this case would have saved them a lot of physical and emotional trauma.

Second opinions can save lives. At SecondOpinions.com, we believe a proper diagnosis is the key to receiving the best care and treatment. You can upload an MRI or CAT scan and our board certified U.S. trained doctors give you their expert opinion.

Packers Bulaga seeks second opinion, will undergo surgery

8/19/2013

It’s not always good news when you get a second opinion. That certainly was the case for Green Bay Packer Bryan Bulaga. The left tackle will now undergo surgery to repair an ACL tear which was a shock to Bulaga and his team mates.

According to the Packers camp, Bulaga seemed to be fine walking around looking uninjured. But the second opinion proved what they all feared. That second opinion also kept him from playing and possibly damaging his knee even further.

Bulaga is the guy charged with protecting quarterback Aaron Rodgers’ blind side. Now he’ll be watching plays from the sideline all season while his knee heals.

ACL tears  are common in athletes who play sports that involve sudden stops and changes in direction. The ACL is the anterior cruciate ligament inside your knee joint. Patients often describe feeling a pop when the ligament tears.

Second opinions are absolutely necessary if you receive a diagnosis for an injury or other ailment. At SeoncdOpinions.com we make it affordable for you to have U.S. Trained, board certified specialists and sub specialists take a look at your images and provide their advanced opinion.

All you do is upload your MRI, CAT scan, etc. and our expert physicians send you a report within as quickly as an hour. No appointments necessary. For $29 to $99 you get your report and the peace of mind you deserve. Try SecondOpinions.com today and see for yourself.
